Modern Beef, Rooted in Tradition.

TRY OUR BEEF

The 1899 difference.

  • Consistency & Traceability

With over 5,000 mother cows, 1899 Beef Co. maintains one of the most sustainable, single-source herds in Western Canada – a lineage refined over generations for uniform quality, calm temperament, and steady growth. Every animal is born, raised, and finished on the same farm, ensuring total lifecycle control and full traceability. Every cut delivers the same trusted standard – from our pasture to your kitchen.

  • Regenerative Farming

This is a story of renewal. By rotating the herd through diverse forages, we restore soil structure, capture carbon, and feed thriving ecosystems from the ground up. Guided by science and refined through generations of hands-on care, this approach turns healthy soil into healthy cattle – creating beef with the depth, texture, and flavour that only restorative farming can deliver.

  • Chef-Grade Quality

Built for professional kitchens – While other suppliers source cattle from multiple farms with varying practices, we control every variable from birth to butchering. The result? Beef that is remarkably consistent in marbling, tenderness, texture and flavour across every single cut. Custom cuts, transparent sourcing, and federally inspected standards ensure every portion meets the demands of modern culinary programs.

125 YEars. Four GeNerations. One Family.

Founded by Telesphore Meunier in 1899 — the first settler in Barrhead, Alberta — our family has been raising cattle on these northern Canadian pastures for over a century.

Today, the Meunier family operates one of the largest herds in Western Canada, with over 5,000 mother cows. Every animal is born, raised, and finished on our ranch under the same care, genetics, and regenerative land practices that have been refined across four generations.

This single-source approach isn't just our heritage — it's your guarantee of consistency, traceability, and quality that performs plate after plate.

When you choose 1899, you’re supporting a system that regenerates – creating richer, cleaner-tasting beef while nourishing the land.

Beef that rebuilds the land.

  • Mother-calf Time

Calves stay with their mothers, learning to forage naturally and adapt to pasture life at their own pace. This reduces stress, strengthens immune development, and supports healthier grazing patterns across the land.

  • Rotational Grazing

Cattle move through pastures in controlled cycles, naturally, giving grasses time to rest, recover, and rebuild nutrients. Our graze and rest periods are carefully managed for different forage stands and changing weather to create richer soil and stronger forage.

  • Living Soil Systems

Healthy soil, rich in microbes, worms, and fungi, boosts fertility and water retention.

  • Closed Nutrient Loops

Manure and organic matter return to the land, reducing the need for outside inputs.

  • Diverse Forages

Grasses, clovers, and legumes feed cattle while restoring soil nutrients and structure.

  • Biodiversity in Balance

Our pastures sustain pollinators, birds, and wildlife in harmony with the herd.

Regenerative agriculture. Real results.

We manage 20,000 acres of Alberta ranchland — about 20 times the size of Stanley Park. That's not a number meant to impress. It's the scale at which regenerative practices actually matter.

When you're working with this much land, rotational grazing isn't a buzzword. It's a tool that rebuilds soil, sequesters carbon, and supports entire ecosystems. Our management decisions ripple across thousands of acres, creating measurable environmental change while raising healthier cattle.

Our regenerative approach focuses on soil health, not just herd management. By mimicking natural grazing patterns and nurturing living soil systems, we create ecosystems and support biodiversity that grow stronger every year.

Our farm is Verified Beef Production Plus (VBP+) approved. In addition to an on-farm audit, this dynamic program requires ongoing, progressive record-keeping of every animal on our farm. This assists with meeting consumer demands for transparent and sustainable beef production.

Our farm is certified to meet the CRSB Sustainable Beef Production Standard.

The 1899 standard:

Consistent Quality, Traceable Integrity.
